Crafting with Wood, Paint, Wine, and Powertools
Updated: Jun 26, 2022
We've all probably heard of paint and sips where you basically bring your own wine, grab a paint by numbers and follow along with an instructor. It could be a fun way to change up social events with your friends, but what if you could take it to the next level?
That's where Board & Brush comes in. At B&B you have over 400 projects to choose from with seemingly infinite different variations. I recently did my first project there and had an absolute blast. Obviously I chose one of their New Jersey plaques, picked my colors and went to work!
The owner, Julie Schachter was the first guest to offer up an "experience" portion of the podcast which helped initiate some change in how we do things. We worked on an abbreviated version of a project and I got to learn the basic steps. First, you need to sand down your wood, then you basically beat it up to give it a "distressed" or "reclaimed" look. This part was a lot of fun and a nice stress relief. Then you work on staining your wood, painting it, and adding your stencil. The abbreviated version was a good way to get an idea of what its all about, but doing it for real was a lot of fun.
If you ever feel stuck and unsure about what you should do with your friends, significant other, or family next, grab a couple bottles of wine or some beer, order a pizza and come down to Board & Brush for a really cool experience and walk out with a project you can hang in your home and be proud of!
