The Children's Theater of New Jersey

Updated: Jun 26, 2022

When we started this podcast it was important to us to be mindful of not only local businesses, but local non-profits that are doing great things in their communities. Over the last 39 years Founder Stephen Fredericks and The Growing Stage - The Children's Theater of New Jersey have been doing just that.

Housed in the historic Palace Theater in Netcong, NJ, The Growing Stage has been serving the community by "nurturing the development of the performing arts through education - and to create, produce, and perform works that engage the entire family." Not only are they consistently putting on productions of well-known shows, but they also encourage their students to produce their own original creations!

When I first walked into The Growing Stage, you could feel that it was a special place. The Palace Theater is steeped in history but Stephen and his team have been able to make it feel connected to its current mission. Throughout the theater you can find the old light switch board, posters from shows and movies that once played at the theater in its heyday, and its iconic copper ceiling and chandelier. However, you will also notice the murals that adorn the walls around the theater with playful connections to shows that have been put on by the Growing Stage.

If you ever have a chance to attend a production at The Growing Stage, I would definitely recommend it. Steve, Danny, and the rest of the group at The Growing Stage do a wonderful job giving back to the community so make sure you support them if you can!
